Varkon, pictures taken December 2007

For sale and pick up in Evanston, IL (first suburb north of Chicago).

Contact joemagiera@ameritech.net for any questions or other pictures desired.

This game was made in 1982 by Williams (recognized as the top pinball manufacturer in the world) and is a series System 7 game. It is a very rare game, there were only 90 units produced. You don't see this game for sale very often, especially in this condition.

Top side of upper playfield completely stripped, playfield cleaned and waxed. All top side playfield parts cleaned.

All underside upper playfield parts that contact a ball were taken apart and cleaned.

Lower playfield completely stripped, playfield cleaned and waxed. All top side of lower playfield parts cleaned.

All underside lower playfield parts that contact a ball were taken apart and cleaned.

All rubbers replaced on both upper and lower playfield. They respond great and are full of life.

All light bulbs replaced (even those that were working) to give a fresh, bright and uniform brightness.

Coin door and coin box door disassembled, cleaned and painted. All functions of the coin door, including both quarter coin mechs and the test buttons work perfectly.

All of the coil sleeves were replaced.

All Flipper plungers, links and coil stops were replaced.

This is a completely restored, collector-quality machine that needs no work. Game is 100% fully working, ready to play.

Brand new balls installed.

The electronics are in perfect condition with no burnt connectors, no hacked wiring and no battery acid damage.

Game includes a photo copy of the instruction manual and a photocopy of the preliminary parts list.

No cracking or warping of any playfield plastics.

Game has 4 brand new neoprene bottom leg levelers installed.

Game includes 1 key for the back door. The front door and coin box are keyed alike locks. There is one key for the front door & coin box door included.

See more details of this rare (only 90 made) and unique machine at the Internet Pinball Machine Database, http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=varkon&searchtype=quick.

Both upper and lower playfields are in perfect condition, carefully shopped within the last few weeks. The main (upper) playfield is a screened lexan overlay which is placed over the wood board, so there are no issues with paint flaking or wear. The overlay itself is in perfect condition with no cracks or scratches in the screening. The lower playfield is the typical screened wood and is in perfect condition. The entire playfield assembly slides out and removes for easy servicing and is very clean on the underside as well.

You are welcome to come to my house to view, inspect and try this game out. Please email me to set up an appointment.

If you would need the game shipped, I cannot pallet or crate this game, however, I will cardboard and shrink wrap if needed. If shipping, it would need to be Beltmann/NAVL or any other shipper where it doesn't need to be palleted or crated. I will be glad to help with local shipping (i.e., within 45 minutes of my house).

I have tried to be as honest as I can with the descriptions and any flaws noted. If you have a different opinion, or note flaws that I didn't mention, let me know and I'll gladly update the web page as appropriate. I don't want surprises for either buyer or seller with any of the items.

working clip Click the image at left for a short digital camera movie to show the game and sound working. This is a .AVI file (this starts Windows Media Player on my PC). (WARNING THIS FILE IS ABOUT 12MG LARGE, YOU PROBABLY SHOULD ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE DSL OR A CABLE MODEM (IF YOU'RE ON DIAL-UP YOU PROBABLY WANT TO SKIP THIS)).

Once you have the high res picture up, if you click on it, it will zoom in more. Look in the yellow, about the middle between the left joystick and the Williams logo in the lower center of the plexi, there is a 1/2 circle, a little smaller than a quarter, almost looks just like a hair in the picture. Not bad at all, but I did want to point it out.

The diagnostic switches (high score reset, advance, auto up/manual down) all work perfectly.

The volume control just inside the coin door also works perfectly.

main PCB's <---main PCB's. All original wiring, no hacks. Brand new fresh batteries installed December 2007. Absolutely no battery acid damage is present.

Sometimes when the game is initially plugged in, it comes up in test mode and I need to push the reset button (the white button on the bottom of the black item mounted just to the left of the batteries). This is easily done directly through the front coin door. Look at the coin door picture above and you'll see you can easily locate and reach this button if you need to reset it. Note, I have only noticed this issue occasionally and only when initially plugging the game in. I usually leave my games on and physically plug and unplug them. This issue may not occur if you leave the game plugged in and you turn it off and on each time. Either way, I view this as very minor, but I am trying to point out all issues that I have noted.

serial number pic 1 <---serial number, pic 1. I cannot find any definitive information or evidence in the cabinet or on any pieces of a serial number or a date of manufacturer.

Both of these tags are found on multiple items on the game. They all have exactly the same matching numbers in all cases. The number on the red tag is 588491. The number on the blue tag is 45212.

These tags (all matching numbers) are on all 3 score displays and on all PCB's except the one to the right of the one with the batteries (see below).
serial number pic 2 <---serial number, pic 2. I cannot find any definitive information or evidence in the cabinet or on any pieces of a serial number or a date of manufacturer.

This tag is on the PCB to the right of the PCB with the batteries. I did not find this tag on any other item in the game. To save you the trouble of zooming in, the numbers on it read 520 07407.

cabinet back <---back of cabinet. No major work was done to the back of the cabinet. The lock was moved to lower on the door. The old lock hole is still present.
